M.I.A.

Apologies for the extended blackout here at OTRWWW. I left about five weeks ago for Nashville on my second foray into business. Now I get why there are so few business people who write, unless its about business. Have you ever tried to read a loan document before taking your morning espresso? -yawn- The lack of style is contagious. I've been back at the computer for a couple weeks now and am still struggling to form a cogent sentence.

This space is at something of a crossroads. This site started as a travel blog, but then I'm only going to be on the road so many weeks of the year. Before the business detour, I dabbled briefly in some political writing, which I enjoyed, and received some positive feedback. I did not want this to become another politics blog, so I stopped. The web has enough political writing, and it is hard to resist the less than objective inclinations of a partisan. What about a sports blog, I've been asked? Well, I love the Giants, and have half a dozen ideas for baseball entries bouncing around my head at any given time, but the internet is also chock full of baseball analysis (one of the sites to your right, McCovey Chronicles, is one of the better Giants blogs you'll find out there). More importantly, there is just too much going on in the world to spend more than a few minutes on the box scores.

Thus the potpourri format. With the Balkanization of the blogosphere, non-specialized content is never going to attract much of a readership. So be it.

One of the best aspects of blogging is the interactive potential. So I welcome any suggestions from the kind souls who check in here from time to time.

Leading to a reader request note: I've been asked to jot down my impressions as one of the shortest tenured CEOs in history. I am unable to tell you much about The Danner Company. Though I refused sign a (rather insulting) confidentially agreement put before me, it is just not appropriate to discuss in public a business in transition. Please don't read anything into this evasion. I had fun, and have nothing much else to report, other than I was surprised how much I remembered about HUD regulatory agreements. A business blog might make money as an alternative to Ambien.

So, in the meantime it is back to the library and William Walker's antebellum galavanting. I have had a long standing fascination with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and am working on a piece about the church's history as it relates to those out of time polygamists who made the very questionable decision to set up shop in Texas. And perhaps a one-off State of the Giants.

I'm still here. Stay tuned. Click Here to Read More..
