Neither of us saw a whole lot of "success." This brought back a lot of memories about the sheer oddity of the whole thing.

The whole bit with four guys entering the room with jumpsuits seemed a bit strange though. Typically, to get an LDS baptism, you are required to complete a set amount of lessons and then get interviewed by the local Church authority. Might be the Branch President, might be one of the missionaries in really small areas. Either you're making it up, or the "elders" in your story were WAAAY off the reservation.

You don't just preach a couple lessons, get a confession, and then dunk people, just like that. Especially when they have stuff they'll have to repent of (like drinking, screwing, etc.).

Your outline of the cosmology with the whole "Hitler" thing is a bit off too, but I won't bore you about it. Maybe you're not really interested in the technicalities...

We do have an interesting history, full of odd and disturbing little facts. For me, that's what makes Mormonism fun. We get to have real flesh-and-blood prophets rather than alabaster replicas of some non-existent ideal of holy perfection. Forces you to stay in touch with what life in a world with people is all about.

Watching religion in the making is like watching sausage being made. Bloody and ugly.

But it still tastes pretty good for all that.
